Criminal Justice Reform

Criminal Justice Reform

The basis of our Justice system is the greatest laid down by man.  But over time it has been corrupted.  I believe that Justice must be swift and sure.  Currently, many violent crimes are not dealt with harshly enough, while non-violent offenders face unreasonably long incarceration.  I will support law enforcement in Constitutional means of putting criminals behind bars.  However, I also believe in forgiveness and second chances.  We need to develop a system that allows the offender to re-enter society and make a life for themselves.  The way that felony convictions follow offenders causes high rates of recidivism.  I stand with President Trump in his bipartisan efforts at criminal justice reform.  Incarceration is one of the few questions to which the answer actually is “government”.  The profit motive is a great thing, but it has no place in the serious task of depriving people of liberty.
